New PDS Cards to be distributed from First April

Finally, Govt has agreed to replace the mutilated old PDS cards distributed to BPL, APL and AAY families. It is an opportunity to address all issues arising related to PDS cards like improper distribution, lost cards and left out beneficiaries. It has also been decided  that the Rs 2 rice will not be distributed in KBK areas to privileged APL  class who are filling income tax return or are working with state govt.,central Govt ,Bank,PSU or Cooperative sector. Persons who own four wheelers or have been retired from govt job and are drawing pension above Rs 5000 will also be excluded from the famous Rs 2 rice benefit. This gives leverage to include all left out families from this scheme. Elaborate arrangements are being made to distribute the PDS cards in most efficient manner involving PRIs and NGOs from First April. The new cards will be water proof and the beneficiaries have to pay nominal cost for getting the cards. All details pertaining to distributed cards retailer wise would be made available in each Panchyat office and on the website as well.

This issue was a long standing grievance among the myriads of rural tribal populi..Many of the deserving were left out from getting the benefits of BPL card, while well off people from public sector organisations were taking the advantage from these cards. The new survey and replacement of old cards would go a long way in addressing the in equal distribution of cards mostly benefiting the poor class.

Time would say whether the scheme to provide rice at Rs.2/- was a famous one or an infamous one . Let the time reach soon when no one would be eager to become a BPL for getting the benefits leaving aside the personal contribution in making their lives anything better .

bpl cards are in many cases the priviledge of the rich who purchase rice at Rs.2/ and sell it at 12 to the really poor. good profit indeed! surveys made to choose the beneficiary often does not reach the poor. i have purchased bpl rice from others for Rs.300 from others for last 2 years and god only knows whether this time i would get a card. It would be great if the collector opens a channel through which the left out poor can draw the collectors attention. thank you.. naresh pradhan, sombartota, jeypore.
