Loan mela to be organised on 10th August at all Block points

Even after much emphasis on financial inclusion and spread of SHGs very small percentage of the population is able to avail the facilities of the banks. In order to take the financial services to the door steps of the people the  administration has decided  to organise " Loan , recovery and Saving  Mela" at every block point and at more than one place in the bigger Blocks. The focus will be to target the farmers who have not yet availed crop loans even for the first time, the SHG groups who are eligible but have not been able to get the linkage from Banks and the budding entrepreneurs who would like to avail the loans. Every VAWs have been asked to identify minimum 20 farmers in their area who have not availed the crop loans, similarly all other functionaries have been involved. The SHGs will be identified by Mission Shakti Federations. Elaborate preparations are being made to make this endeavour a success.

Farming and farmer in the context of Koraput is bit different from the mainstream farming practice. The transition here is from slash and burn (podu) to upland and few posses jhola land. I don't know whether the crop loan can be obtained for growing small millets on the hill slop to cultivating traditional rice on the stream bed ( jhola land).

There are alot of farmers who are coming for crop loans.however this facilities at their doorsteps would be a welcome measure to lessen their hassles. But prior to that enough advertisement be made in weekly haats to create the awareness and make the programme a huge success....

i am sure it will try to pacify the narayanpatna issue too. although loan mela is a humble endeavour, it should be taken advantage by those who need it most. So, before organising it, messages/information should be given to the farmers. Otherwise its only the handful few, who always run away with the booty. Anyways , congrats, this is the 1st time i am seeing a blog by a collector on development issues. You will fare well.

This refers to the Comment posted on 27.7.10 -

Loans can be obtained by farmers cultivating jhola land through Joint Liability Group(JLG) mode. Loans to JLG is available from LAMPS and all the branches of Utkal gramy Bank in our district. JLG is a group of 4-5 landless/tenant farmers/ share croppers/oral lessees having mutual trust and willingnes to help each other. They can approach the bank /LAMPS for the purpose.

The Camps organised on 10.8.10 was attempt to create desired financial literacy, awareness about the services provided by the banks and bringing Government departments and banks on one platform.
